When the Sky Opened Up and Fell on Us

The following post features student writing.

Hello, family and friends!

Today was a pretty calm and peaceful day except for some storms in the afternoon. Our day started with a breakfast of rice and beans, yucca frita, and sausage. After breakfast, we started work. We split into groups and started working on 3–4 different projects throughout the day.

Some people shoveled manure from a compost pile behind the ASOMBI coffee toaster into bags to carry them up to fill empty tire planters with. It was hard and stinky work!

Others gave parts of the inside of the ASOMOBI toaster a fresh coat of white paint. It looks much better now, although we doubt that it will stay that color for much longer…

We also built a door for a closet next to the girls bathroom and continued our work on the walls in the future technology training room.

And, finally, we finished shaping the dirt around the ramp into THREE LEVELS after multiple days of work. Tomorrow we will start to place tires (used as planters) on them.

For lunch we had a delicious meal of beef in sauce, salad, and rice, prepared by our cook of the week, Gretel (who was assisted by Maya and Mila). After lunch, we continued working on our group projects, until 3 PM. Around that time it started raining like never before!

A victorious Spit player, ready for another challenge!

While it rained, we had individual conversations with Alia and Cody to discuss our individual projects. They helped us organize our projects so that we can start working on them. We then had hot chicken soup for dinner — the perfect way to end a rainy day. Alia surprised us after dinner with delicious snickerdoodle cookies that she had made from scratch! We enjoyed them while playing card games.

Besitos,
