Laying the Smack-Down on the Dirt

The following post features student writing.

¡Hola!

Today consisted of digging more holes and working with Miguel. First we started with empanadas with cheese and beans to boost our attitude for the day ahead of us. After that, we went hard on Mother Earth, digging and digging. A portion of us were finishing excavating the dirt steps by the ramp for the tire planters. By the way, it was finished before our morning shift was over, BAM! At the same time, the rest of the squad was tearing the ground up, revealing four-inch larvae and some weird-looking bug that I thought didn’t originate from Earth, and transporting it into tires for planting.

We woke up like this…

Sometime in the morning, three of our friends (Carlito, Kenna, and Eric) plus Cody went to the grocery store and elsewhere to obtain supplies. For lunch, we had a world-class meal: mashed potatoes with mixed vegetables and well-seasoned chicken. Everyone was munching on it like it no tomorrow. There wasn’t much conversation going on during lunch.

After the delicious meal, we went back to beating up the dirt like a boss. During the process, the skies decided to rain on us — bummer. After wrapping up our work day, we were shown what the coffee workers at ASOMOBI do for a living. Then we spent some time checking out their gift shop.

Ally’s arms are feeling “tierra-ble.”

The real fun came after dinner. ? There was a VERY intense card game. It was called…Spit. It may sound lame, but once you play you’ll understand the “struggle” and the struggle was REAL. There was screaming, laughing, and hand-slapping tables like you wouldn’t believe.

After several crazy intense and fun games, two of our tables had been terribly beaten up, along with ten swollen hands.

Adios! Qué tenga un buen día!
