Going Hard in the Paint

The following post features student writing.

Hola familias y amigos,

We woke up this morning to the sound of Eric spitting out random facts about music, history, and anything else he thought would bother us to the point of waking up (it worked!). Vera prepared sandwiches, coffee, and juice for breakfast and then we got right to work. During our morning work shift, our clean laundry was returned to us and we spent a few minutes embracing the clothes that didn’t smell of horses, sweat, and rain, knowing it would not last long. We spent the morning painting the girls’ room and removing the paint from one of the accessibility ramps because the paint had made it slick. It was a really nice morning and our system of rotating work shifts gave us each a few minutes to relax on our beloved hammock.

After the long morning, we had a lunch of salad, rice, and pork chops. We finished the painting and the room now looks increíble! During free time, Alia and Cody made a spontaneous plan to play capture the flag in the rain! We had learned from previous experience, and geared up in bathing suits, water shoes, and raincoats to brace ourselves. Before the game started, we got some quick energy snacks of ice cream, cookies, and crackers at the pulpería. We were then split up into teams based on middle names and a few of our Tico friends joined in. The game got very intense when we were faced with a 2–2 tie, but your fearless bloggers here summoned all of the strength we had left to pull through and win!

Hot showers were a must after playing in the cold rain and then we headed off to our last dinner with Vera.  She made us a meal of spaghetti, meatballs, and bread, which was a nice carb boost after the long day.

Now we are heading off to watch a movie and get some rest before our day tomorrow!

Besos y abrazos!
