Back to Work in Biolley

Hello again,

We the leaders are back to blog for one more night, giving the students a rest from the weighty responsibility of writing. Tomorrow, we promise you will be back to hearing student voices and not our boring ones.

If there was any question about how the group would fare returning to work after their mini-vacation, they answered it by diving right back into our projects today. After a light breakfast of eggs, fruit, and toast with jam, we picked up our paintbrushes and began painting the lodge’s accessibility ramps a deep forest green. Progress came quickly and Ally, the day’s team leader, kept everyone motivated and the mood upbeat.

By lunch, we had already covered the ramp and another downstairs area in the first coat of paint. Lunch was protein-rich, consisting of rice with a garbanzo bean and chicken stew, as well as sliced avocado, salad, and fresh fruit juice. After lunch and a quick hammock break, the group was back to work with putting the second coat of paint on the ramp and putting some finishing touches on the walls we had been painted last week. It looks absolutely stunning! The green color really brings out the beauty of Biolley’s naturaleza. The group put a lot of work in today and it shows!

After finishing our afternoon work hours, we took our normal afternoon break before dinner. Three of our students, Mila, Lizzy, and Cierra, accompanied Alia to pick up some groceries and fuel up our car in San Vito, while other students took walks around Biolley with Putney and Tico friends alike, finding some impressive lookouts to watch the piercing pink sunset. We all reconvened for a delicious dinner of beef, rice, and green papaya picadillo. After dinner we set up the projector, popped some popcorn, and turned Asomobi’s posada into our very own movie theater. The movie finished off our long day with many laughs before heading to bed.

As the motivation and hard work of today proved, we all really missed Biolley and Asomobi and could not be happier to be back in our Costa Rican home!

Until tomorrow,

Alia y Cody
