The following post features student writing.
Greetings from Hacienda Baru!
We started our morning with a great breakfast at our hotel consisting of pineapples, watermelon, eggs, toast, and rice. I think that the group was very satisfied with the meal because, by the end, everyone had a clean plate! After breakfast we got prepared to go zip-lining, which I’ve never done before.

Alex is really embracing the Tico life.
Although I was the only one terrified, the experience was great! Zip-lining took about two hours of our day. The sun was beaming down so hard on the group that we decided to go for a swim afterward. The pool was refreshing but, unfortunately, we couldn’t stay forever.

Nobody puts Charlie’s Angels in the corner!
By the time we were getting out of the pool it was time for something good to eat. Our thrilling leaders, Cody and Alia, took us into the nearby town of Dominical. Boy was that a walk! It was a good thing we had water bottles!
We ate lunch at a vegan restaurant and for dessert headed to a small store located in town, where we were able to choose between ice cream and a soda. The beach was our next destination. The waves of the water gave me a soothing feeling until it started raining cats and dogs! We were soaked from head to toe. The rain didn’t stop. It got heavy and then, eventually, it lightened up. It was really exciting walking in the rain with the crew. We sang at the top of our lungs as we walked toward the bus stop. But the bus never arrived, so we chose to walk back to Hacienda Baru.

Singing in the rain…

At least Carlito knew how to stay dry!
Just before arriving back at our hotel, we stopped at a nearby gas station for some much-needed snacks. The group and I made it through a tiring day with no complaints. All in all, today was a big success!
Sending hugs from Costa Rica!
