Chasing Waterfalls

The following post features student writing.

¡Hola familias!

After many hard days of work, we were #blessed with an extra hour of sleep this morning (shoutout to Savvy’s 17th Birthday!). Laura had prepared us some delicious eggs and beans for breakfast. After everyone was done eating we went off on a journey to the deep mystery of Costa Rica (a.k.a. the waterfall 15 minutes away). The trek to the waterfall, as glorious and beautiful as it was, turned out to be as rigorous of a hike as it could get. Though we acquired some muddy bottoms and hands on the way, we finally arrived at our beautiful destination, thanks to the guidance of our Costa Rican friends.

The beautiful waterfall was 100% worth the hike. After spending about an hour and a half at the waterfall we dried off and began our journey back to the trucks.

When we got back to Asomobi we had about half an hour to change out of our wet bathing suits and into dry clothes. After we were all ready, Laura had once again prepared us a tantalizing meal of beef with rice and beans and salad. Once we were all done eating we were off to work with Miguel on finishing painting the downstairs and breaking unwanted concrete.

After two hours of hard work, we had our scheduled break from 3–6, in which we were told to pack for our weekend excursion. While a few people went off to play a friendly pickup game of soccer with some of the local kids, others went to lie down, pack, or take a shower after our messy day of hiking and working. For dinner, Laura had prepared a delicious meal of chop suey with fried veggies. Laura also, in her typically generous manner, made Savvy a scrumptious lemon birthday cake, which we presented to her, complete with candles and bilingual singing. It is our last night with Laura, and we will all dearly miss her motherly presence, cooking, and care. After our meal we chatted some, drank some tea, and went our own ways, off to bed. Tomorrow we are off to the nature preserve of Hacienda Baru to see some more biodiversity!
