¡Hola a todos!
Our day got off to a great start with some delicious pancakes with bananas, cooked for us by Laura. Then we started a little impromptu soccer game in the grass to get our blood flowing. Sophia is very talented at soccer, it turns out. Though we could have continued for some time, we knew that there was work that needed to be done, so we got to it.
We are still sanding the outside of Asomobi’s administration and training building. Miguel, our maestro de obras, tells us we are getting close to being done, but it seems like he has been saying that for some time now! We are all sanding experts now, but I think we are all looking forward to finishing it and moving on to the next thing. We worked hard all morning, helped each other out with physical and moral support, and got a lot done before lunch.

Happy sanders ready to hit the pool
Lunch was delicious, consisting of a yuca cake, pumpkin stir-fry, rice, beans, and salad. We continue to get to know one another better, and these lunches are one of the best times for doing so. After lunch, we juggled the soccer ball a bit more so we could dive back into work with high spirits.
In the afternoon, with the sun beating down upon our heads, we were exhausted — we had hoped to finish sanding today but that suddenly seemed out of reach. We pushed to do as much as possible but at 2 PM our leaders saw that we needed a boost and suggested we break for the day and go have some fun. We walked down the road a ways to a hotel that, for a small fee, has a pool and WiFi that can be used. So, we swam. We lounged. We played ping pong. We caught up with our parents. It was a much-needed (and well deserved!) source of relaxation.
We returned to Asomobi to dine on our next delicious meal: sopa azteca. This soup has chicken, tomato, avocado, cheese, cilantro, and rice…and it is fantastic. I think the pool must have sapped everyone’s energy, because after that we pushed through a quick nightly meeting and then broke into some smaller group games before we headed to sleep.
Wish you were here!
